In part 1 of our blog series, we discussed the top 10 design types of 2023. Now it’s time to unveil the hot and not-so-hot design trends this year. In the hot category, we have advanced titling, UI/UX animations, complex vector art, product animations, merchandise and swag design, illustrative concept art, animated explainer videos, and motion graphics templates. On the not-so-hot side, there are designs for Twitch, Pinterest, and X (formerly known as Twitter) as well as mug designs and simple icons and iconography.

With these hot and not-so-hot design types in mind, here are three key takeaways everyone should keep in mind, as we continue to make great graphics in 2024:

1. Recognize and focus on investing in creative assets that deliver the highest return on investment for your brand. If you own a restaurant, for example, having a Facebook and Instagram feed full of high-quality food photos will most likely be more beneficial than incorporating illustrative or complex vector.

2. Review your target audience and determine what social media channels they spend the most time on. Knowing what platform your audience is most active on will guide your design and content decisions. If you’re targeting professionals or B2Bs, LinkedIn is where you want to focus your efforts. In the same way, if you’re looking to connect with Gen Z, TikTok’s the place to be!

3. Refresh your media library, so your visual identity makes the right first impression. You never get a second chance to make a first impression, so make sure you put your best foot forward with updated graphics that properly convey the value your business brings to the table.
